The Boeing 737-800 is a stretch version of the 737 Next Generation of short to medium range narrow-body jet airliners. It replaced the older 727-200 and the discontinued McDonnell Douglas MD-80 on most North American fleets. The −800 entered service in 1998.
To celebrate American Airlines history the airline has unveiled a “Heritage Series” of vintage liveries honoring the airlines it has acquired through the years making them the largest airline in the world. The 737 featured here is carrying the iconic colors of TWA (Trans World Airlines). American Airlines acquired TWA in 2001.
