GEMINI ALLIANCE F-70 1/400 VICKERS VIMY 100 YEARS VH-QQW **
Product Description
GeminiJets 1/400 scale Alliance Airlines Fokker 100 diecast model is As Real as it Gets™ and measures approximately 3-7/16-inches long with a 2-3/4-inch wingspan. Manufactured by GeminiJets as a limited edition, highly collectible model, this Alliance Airlines Fokker 100 - Registration VH-UQG - has been meticulously recreated from Fokker's blueprints and features realistic landing gear and detailed graphics, assuring the utmost accuracy and superior quality. A Display Stand is not included and is sold separately - Gemini GJSTD777. Building on the success of Fokker's earlier F-27 and F-28 airliners, and to remain competitive, Fokker began to develop a larger, modernized version of their versatile F-28 aircraft. Originally designated the F-29, Fokker officially launched the F100 program in November 1983 targeting the 100+ seat market. Launch customer, Swissair, which placed an order for ten F100 aircraft in 1984, received its first aircraft in early 1988. With competing McDonnell Douglas and Boeing aircraft having already been well established in the marketplace, initial sales of the F100 were lackluster. However, in the late 1980s, the tide eventually turned, with large orders for the F100 having come from USAir (who changed its named to US Airways and eventually merged with American Airlines in 2015) and American Airlines, which not only gave the F100 program a much-needed sales boost, but it also actually made the F100 program a moderate success. Responding to a request from the airlines to develop a downsized airliner to replace the smaller F-28, as the F-100 was slightly too large. This new aircraft was designated the F70 and first flew in April 1993. Despite the encouraging sales figures for the F70 and F100 aircraft, internal corporate problems and mounting losses at Fokker eventually doomed the program. Fokker financially collapsed in 1996, and production was terminated in 1997 after completing 48 F70 and 283 F100 series aircraft.
